11:30am on Sundays. Our services run about 1:15 and are typically composed of contemporary worship songs, prayers, and a sermon/message. The first Sunday of the month we partake of Holy Communion where everyone is welcome. Baptisms are by request. Come as you are and wear what makes you comfortable! The building is wheelchair accessible. The back door (facing the parking lot) is the door most people use, however the doors at the front of the church are open on Sunday mornings as well.
What We Believe
We believe in the One True God: Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer.
We believe that Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior.
In Creation, God wants us. In Jesus Christ, God redeems and restores us. In the Holy Spirit, God abides with us now and forever.
We believe that the Church belongs to Jesus, and our desire as Fridley UMC is to reach up in praise and adoration, to reach deep to be equipped followers of Jesus, and to reach out to engage and serve our neighbors with compassion and care.
Worship can take many forms and can have many different styles and traditions. We believe that as long as the Good News, or the Gospel, of Jesus Christ is faithfully preached and the Sacraments of Baptism and Holy Communion are rightly administered, then we are free to creatively praise and worship our God in innovative and exciting ways. These diverse expressions can come through video, drama, music, dancing, prayer, and even potlucks. All, however, are designed to keep Jesus Christ at the center of all that we do. Our "normal" worship gathering includes contemporary worship songs led by a diverse and growing number of musicians and vocalists. If you'd like to join our worship team, or have some creative ideas for worship, let's talk!
If you are visiting with us, please understand that we have no expectation that you will participate in our offering.
If, however, you would like to give an offering, feel free to drop it in the offering plates up in front during our worship time or give online.
We love to have children participate in worship, but we also understand if a nursery is your preference during the service. We begin worship together in the sanctuary with everybody, and then after the opening three songs a nursery attendant will help the children (5 and under) to a kid-friendly space in our church preschool, Rainbow School. Our nursery attendants will lead the children in age-appropriate activities until the closing worship song. At that point, the children rejoin everyone in the sanctuary for the blessing and dismissal. If you have any questions about our child care options, please let us know. We appreciate and encourage children to attend any part of the worship time, and we welcome them, sounds and all, to be part of our Fridley UMC community.
During the "school year," or from September through May, we have several adult-education options for those wishing to dive deeper. We also have an inter-generational class, led by Pastor Wayne Swanson, that meets year-round at 10:35am on Sundays and focuses on applying Scripture to our everyday lives. We encourage you to try out this inter-generational format with your kids or grandkids as it is always fun and exciting to have the different generations share their experiences and perspectives with one another.
We have a fellowship and gathering time following worship and serve a variety of donuts and both regular and decaf coffee. Our hope is to someday have a shared meal following our worship time together, but for now we have community potlucks (roughly) every six weeks. Please just come and enjoy, and don't feel obligated to bring anything. We'd love to meet you and have some time to get to know one another!
God isn't boring, so why should we be? We are always on the lookout for new and exciting ideas for creative worship. We are also always looking for people to serve on the worship team. If you are interested in sharing your creative ideas, or finding out more about how to join our worship team as an instrumentalist or vocalist, please reach out and let us know!
